Tuning

What affects tuning

Temperature and humidity fluctuations as well as playing frequency are the 3 main factors that affect tuning stability…

Temperature

Pianos placed near heat sources or in direct sunlight are constantly expanding or contracting and never settle.

Humidity

If the piano is in an area where there is cooking, clothes washing or clothes drying etc., then this will also unsettle the instruments delicate balance.

Playing

The more its played and the harder its played, the more it will need tuning. Professionals will have their pianos tuned every 3-4 months and concert pianos are tuned for every performance.

Tuning starting from just £85.00

During our tuning visit we often carry out minor mechanical repairs too, such as squeaky pedals or a few sticking notes. If it’s been a long time since your piano was last maintained extra work may be required to bring it back to its best. If the extra repairs and adjustments can be done without adding too much time to our visit we usually don’t charge any extra but if it is necessary, complicated repairs or restoration will be quoted for separately.
